The role of the Industry Training Authority

In British Columbia, the Industry Training Authority (ITA) leads the way in improving training in key sectors through Industry Training Organizations (ITOs). ITOs are not-for-profit, legal entities with responsibility for designated industry training programs. They are established by industry and co-funded by the Industry Training Authority with high degrees of accountability to employers and to the ITA. The ITA-ITO partnership model ensures that training outcomes will be better aligned with current and evolving industry needs and employers will have an enhanced ability to attract and retain skilled labour. This innovative partnership model for the development and delivery of apprenticeship training programs is unique in Canada and is further demonstration of the ITA's leadership in meeting labour market and industry needs.
