About Residential Construction Programs
Apprenticeship: Learning on the job.
RCITO’s apprenticeship programs are post-secondary education programs that combine paid, work-based training with technical training in a classroom or shop setting. To earn a certificate or ‘ticket’ and become a certified tradesperson, you need to complete both components successfully and pass written and practical examinations. RCITO’s apprenticeship programs vary in length from one to four levels, depending upon the specific trade requirements.
The most direct way to train for a trade or industry career in residential construction is to find work in the field, with an employer who will sponsor you. However, through the Secondary School Apprenticeship and ACE IT programs, you can begin your training while you're at high school, earning both high school and post-secondary credits at the same time. Many people also take Foundation Programs, at a college or other training institute.
