Credit for Prior Learning

Get the credit you deserve:
Your experience may count towards your credential.

Many people working in residential construction have years of experience and are very skilled, but do not have a credential to demonstrate their ability to potential employers. If this sounds like you, you may be able to receive credit for your experience and training, and become certified in a shorter period of time.

The Industry Training Authority will assess whether you are qualified to challenge the certification exam for your trade, or to receive equivalent status that enables you to supervise other apprentices in your field. We can help you through the process and make sure you get the credit you deserve.

In order to qualify to challenge a BC Certificate of Qualification or Inter-Provincial Examination, or to qualify for equivalent status, you must have your work experience assessed.

The first step is to get an application package for your trade.

To download the appropriate package, select your trade from this list. If the package you need is not yet available, contact ITA Customer Service or RCITO to request it.

Your completed application will be processed within 60 days.
